The awards ceremony took place at a luncheon held on December 10, 2001 at the New York Public Library, symbolizing the great importance Mr. Carnegie placed on libraries. Along with more than 20 Carnegie institutions' boards and staff, leaders from New York's cultural, philanthropic and political worlds attended.
